Schaffer Wins Re-Election As Babylon Supervisor

Unofficial results are in for Babylon's 2025 elections

BABYLON, NY — The Democratic Party continued its long streak of victories in the Town of Babylon, as Supervisor Rich Schaffer and his slate won overwhelmingly in Tuesday’s general election, according to unofficial results from the Suffolk County Board of Elections.

Schaffer, who has served as supervisor since 2012, earned 76.7 percent (20,720 votes) to Republican Douglas W. Sutherland’s 23.2 percent (6,264 votes). His re-election further cements Democratic control in one of Suffolk County’s most consistently blue towns.

Gerry Compitello (D, C) was also re-elected as Babylon Town Clerk, earning 70.6 percent (18,722 votes) over Christopher S. Como (R) with 29.3 percent (7,776 votes). Compitello has served in the clerk’s office since 2019 and ran on a platform focused on accessibility and modernization of town services.

Both Anthony N. Manetta (D, R, C) and Tony Martinez (D, C) were re-elected to the Babylon Town Board, continuing Democratic leadership.

Manetta topped the field with 53.26 percent (24,460 votes).

Martinez followed with 46.52 percent (21,364 votes).

Manetta, who also appeared on the Republican and Conservative lines, remains a bipartisan presence on the board. Martinez, a longtime councilman and deputy supervisor, will continue his focus on housing and economic development initiatives.

County Legislature

In nearby legislative contests, both parties held their respective strongholds.

District 9: Samuel J. Gonzalez (D, WF) was re-elected with 62.9 percent (4,160 votes) over Guy G. Leggio (R, C).

District 10: Trish Bergin (R, C) won re-election with 56.2 percent (6,399 votes) against Leigh-Ann M. Barde (D).

District 11: Steven J. Flotteron (R, C) secured another term, earning 57.9 percent (7,012 votes) to Lucas E. Deitch (D) with 41.8 percent (5,061).

District 15: Jason A. Richberg (D, WF) was re-elected with 73.2 percent (6,861 votes) over Jarod B. Morris (R, C).

Trends

Tuesday’s results reaffirmed Babylon’s Democratic majority, with Schaffer’s ticket sweeping all town offices and Democrats retaining legislative control in key western districts. Meanwhile, Republicans maintained strength further east through Districts 10 and 11.

Next Steps

All results remain unofficial until certified by the Suffolk County Board of Elections following the count of absentee and affidavit ballots.
