Smyth Wins Re-Election As Huntington Supervisor; GOP Holds Key Town, County Seats
Unofficial results are in for Huntington's 2025 elections, with Supervisor Ed Smyth and other Republicans holding the town's top offices.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Republican Supervisor Ed Smyth is projected to win re-election in Huntington, according to unofficial results from the Suffolk County Board of Elections, as GOP candidates maintained control of several key town and county positions.
Smyth, who ran on the Republican and Conservative lines, received 49.3 percent (21,368 votes) to Democrat Cooper Macco’s 47.9 percent (20,766 votes). Working Families candidate Maria Delgado earned 2.8 percent (1,195 votes). Smyth, who first took office in 2021, is expected to continue his focus on fiscal restraint, downtown revitalization, and environmental resilience.

Andrea Sorrentino Jr. (R, C) won election as Superintendent of Highways, earning 53.7 percent (23,231 votes) over Vincent E. Colavita (D) with 44.1 percent (19,082 votes). Working Families candidate Chris Haines finished third with 2.2 percent (960 votes).

In a competitive four-way race, Republicans appear poised to hold both Town Board seats.
David P. Bennardo (R, C) — 25.0 percent (21,169 votes)
Gregory Grizopoulos (R, C) — 22.5 percent (19,032 votes)
Jen Hebert (D) — 26.5 percent (22,396 votes)
Stephen Anastasia (D) — 23.7 percent (20,046 votes)
While Democrats slightly outperformed on total votes, Republican incumbents maintained a narrow edge in percentage share. The final outcome may depend on absentee ballot counts.
County Legislature Races
At the county level, Democrats and Republicans split Huntington’s three legislative districts, reflecting the town’s continued political balance.
District 16: Rebecca L. Sanin (D, WF) re-elected with 58.5 percent (7,600 votes) over Chad A. Lupinacci (R, C).
District 17: Thomas P. Donnelly (D, C) re-elected with 69.5 percent (6,758 votes), defeating Kevin P. Judge (R).
District 18: Stephanie L. Bontempi (R, C) re-elected with 50.7 percent (11,072 votes) over Craig G. Herskowitz (D) with 49.3 percent (10,761 votes).
Town Outlook
With Smyth’s re-election, Republicans maintain leadership of Huntington’s executive offices, while Democrats continue to hold a majority of the town’s legislative representation through the Suffolk County Legislature.
