'Real Head Turner' Genesis: Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week
Genesis, a 2-year-old male, is the "purring gentleman ready to steal your heart." He was found near the remains of a burnt-down building.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Genesis, a 2-year-old male cat, the "purring gentleman ready to steal your heart," is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week.
"Sometimes, the most extraordinary companions come from the most unexpected places," said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter. "Genesis is one of those special souls."
Genesis was found wandering near the remains of a burnt-down building, according to Larkin. He was either lost or "heartbreakingly left behind," she said.

"But despite his uncertain past, Genesis holds no grudges," she said. "He’s a resilient, loving boy with a heart full of hope and a whole lot of charm."
He was in foster care for about three weeks to get acclimated to being inside, and he "passed with flying colors," Larkin said.

"Genesis is a real head-turner — handsome and unique, with white fur accented by tiger-striped markings and a stunning white racing stripe down his back," Larkin said. "But it’s not just his looks that will catch your attention. This boy has a personality that lights up the room."
From the moment someone walks through the door, Genesis is there, tail high, eyes bright, and ready to say hello, according to Larkin.
"He greets everyone like an old friend and welcomes attention with non-stop purring that can melt even the toughest hearts. Belly rubs? He lives for them. Scratches behind the ears? Absolute heaven. He’s the kind of cat who loves affection and gives it right back."
When it comes to mealtime, Genesis "eats with gusto like every bite is a gift," Larkin said.
"You’ll never have to wonder if he likes his food!"
This "sweet, social boy" is more than ready for a second chance at life, according to Larkin.
The Greek meaning of his unusual name translates to "beginning or rebirth," and his arrival at the shelter falls right into place, Larkin said.
"He’s not just looking for a home, he’s looking for a family, for someone to love him as much as he’ll
love them (and he has a lot of love to give)," Larkin said. "If you’re ready for a loyal companion who’ll meet you at the door, bring you his toys so you can play with him, fill your home with antics and
purrs, and remind you daily of the power of resilience and affection, Genesis is your guy. Come meet Genesis and see for yourself…he’s ready to be your best friend."

He has tested negative for both FELV and FIV, tested negative for parasites, and had his ears, teeth, eyes and heart checked. He has also had all of his vaccines, is litter box trained, neutered and microchipped.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.
"Genesis is currently available for adoption (residing in the blue room at the shelter) and he will also be one of the stars at our Adoption Event on July 12 (which is not just for kittens but also for special young adults like him)," Larkin said. "Why don’t you come into the shelter for a meet and greet before he finds his people and goes home with someone else?"
