The "R Kittens" are 3 month old. The rescue would love to see the trio stay together, if possible. "They love to play with each other."

HUNTINGTON, NY — Rebecca, Robin and Rory, around 3 months old, are the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pets of the Week.

The "R Kittens" arrived at the shelter Aug. 13 after being found with their mother in a neighbor's backyard, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter.

"The mother was totally feral, so of course she was TNR’d and released back to the colony, but thankfully we received a call from one of the trappers we work with because he needed immediate placement for these babies," Larkin said.

All three girls were not even a pound, so the shelter was not sure if they would survive without their mom, according to Larkin.

"So we placed them in a foster home and hoped for the best," Larkin said. "We need not have worried because they are all almost ready to enter into the shelter in the next 10 days."

Rebecca is a feisty calico and the leader of the group, Larkin said. She loves to get her sisters into trouble, and it doesn’t take much, she added. She is very inquisitive and has to inspect everything. She makes up the rules that she expects her sisters to follow, and they do.

"Owners of calico cats often say that their personalities are as colorful as their coat," Larkin said. "They are usually described as fiery, assertive and independent and all three of those descriptions fit Rebecca to a 'T!'"

Rory, the tabby and white polydactyl, is the runner of the group, always looking to escape the cage or the room she is situated in, Larkin said. She was the first one to figure out how to climb over the gate blocking the door and also to the top of the very large dog crate in the house. She is "very mischievous" and has the cutest "grumpy" face all the time, Larkin said.

"And watch out for those 'murder mittens' she has in the front!"

Robin, the mackerel tabby, is the clinger, according to Larkin. She is extremely needy and
constantly wants to be in the foster mom’s lap. If someone sits down in a chair or on the couch, she is the first to actually climb up their legs to get into their lap. And if she thinks the person is not paying enough attention to her while she is on their lap getting rubbed, she will climb up their chest to get to their shoulder and neck area.

"That will be a great feature when the weather gets chilly and you are looking for a scarf to put around your neck..I am sure she will accommodate your needs!" Larkin said.

They love to play with each other. Their favorite toys are the springs, the stuffed mice, their fish with feathers, and of course the cardboard roll inside a tube of poop bags, according to Larkin.

"I guess the roll is just the right size for those little paws to bat around the house," she said. "Wrestling is also one of their favorite sports. They all eat at exactly the same time and use the litter box together…talk about being on a schedule."

They are in a home where there are cats of various ages and two dogs. Their favorite cat in the foster home is Laverne, Larkin said, and they love when they get to spend time with her. She is a very mellow older cat who enjoys their company and will actually play with them. They are
not the least bit intimidated by the dogs, and welcome the daily bathing by the black lab mix, so they are "extremely socialized," Larkin said.

The girls have all tested negative for FELV and FIV, tested negative for parasites, their ears and hearts are working perfectly, they received all but one vaccine, are litter box trained and will be
spayed on Oct. 14 and will arrive at the shelter and be available for adoption on Oct. 17.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.

"These adorable girls will make a great addition to your family," Larkin said. "We would love to see them stay together but we know that is a big ask for most people, but they are so well adjusted and social they will do fine if they have to be separated. They will also do well with older cats and small to midsize dogs in the house. They will make you laugh every day with their antics
and definitely keep you on your toes. Anyone out there with a sense of adventure?"
