'Touch-A-Truck' Food Drive Event Coming To Huntington Station

Adults and children can check out different trucks and learn how they operate. Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food donations.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — The fourth annual Touch-A-Truck event, which serves as an interactive day and food drive, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station. It is sponsored by Stop & Shop & Suffolk County Council and Scouting America.

The event is free for all children and adults who bring a non-perishable food donation to help "stuff the truck."

Attendees can get up close to different vehicles and learn from the people who operate them. Trucks include construction, fire department, police department, emergency, advertising, movie vehicles, and more. There will be music, an ax-throwing mobile van and fun.

Patch has partnered with Feeding America since 2020 to help raise awareness in our local communities of hunger, a persistent national problem exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks and 60,000 local meals programs across the country, estimates that nearly 34 million people, including 9 million children — about 1 in 6 Americans — are living with food insecurity. This is a Patch social good project; Feeding America receives 100 percent of donations. Find out how you can donate in your community or find a food pantry near you.
