ISLIP, NY —Islip School District announces a new principal for Sherwood Elementary. Briana James, who was most recently assistant principal in Wantagh School District, will take over at Maud S. Sherwood Elementary.

James has worked as Wantagh Elementary School's assistant principal since 2019. Before that she was a kindergarten and third-grade teacher at Glenwood Landing Elementary School in Glen Head and a second- and fifth-grade teacher in Wantagh.

The educator resides in Northport and earned her bachelor’s degree in economics at the College of the Holy Cross, her master’s degree in elementary education at Boston College, and her educational leadership certificate from Dowling College.

“I am truly honored to be joining the Islip School District as principal of Sherwood Elementary School,” she said in a statement from Islip School District.

“I firmly believe that great schools are the result of great teachers, and it is my goal for all of us at Sherwood to continue to work together to provide our children with a rich academic program in a safe, inclusive and emotionally nurturing environment.”
