Possible Thunderstorms, Then Clear Holiday Skies: LI Weekend Weather

LONG ISLAND, NY — Rain will continue to make an appearance this Father's Day and Juneteenth weekend on Long Island, according to the National Weather Service.

On Friday, expect an 80 percent chance of precipitation and thunderstorms after 5 p.m., with rainfall of between a tenth and quarter of an inch.

The storms will continue through Saturday, with a west wind of 6 to 9 miles per hour.

Skies will clear up just in time for Father's Day, Sunday, June 18, so Long Islanders can look forward to spending outside time with dad.

The sunny weather will continue to Monday, June 19, or Juneteenth, with a high of near 75.

Friday: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. High near 76. Light southwest wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 60. East wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a chance of showers between 11pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 76.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Juneteenth: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.

Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60.
