What's happening includes another school budget meeting, plus a college day, awards ceremony, car show and PARP week.

Now, here are five more things you need to know to start your day:
1. Tonight is the next and regular Board of Education business meeting in this year’s series of presented by the board. It’ll start at 8 p.m., and be held in the on Daniel Street.

The BOE was expected to finalize the budget at last Thursday’s workshop, and adopt the budget at tonight’s meeting. However, the BOE as it continues talks with the teachers’ union, TAL.
No word as of the last meeting as to when the BOE will reschedule, and it’s unclear if a new date will be announced tonight.

2. The will host the Bookmark Contest Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. tonight. Students from schools across Lindenhurst at different grade levels participated in the contest, which was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst. That’s according to Gary Biggs, LML board member and president-elect of the Club.
Biggs – who’s running unopposed for reelection to the library board at – told Lindenhurst Patch that the club jointly judged the submitted bookmarks and chose several winners in each of four age/grade categories: K-3, 4-6, middle school and high school.
Awards will be given out at tonight’s ceremony.
3. The will host a mini college day today.
4. The is seeking support. Scheduled for May 14 at the high school, all proceeds will benefit the students of Lindenhurst schools. Gates open at 8 a.m. Check-in will run until noon. Awards and raffles will start at 3 p.m. Rain date is May 15.
There will be food, music, baskets, displays and events. Raffle tickets are available now for $20.00 each.
There will also be a raffle to win a 2011 Toyota Prius Hybrid from Atlantic Toyota. For details, visit the dedicated website.
It’ll be open to cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles at $10 pre-register and $15 day-of-show. Included with paid entry is one free raffle ticket for a chance to win a NASCAR Drive Experience. Bicycles and spectators get in for free. First- and second-place trophies in each of 15 classes – plus best in show – will be awarded.
Vendors (at $25 each) and food vendors ($100 each) are also needed.
5. E.W. Bower elementary school's Parents as Reading Partners week – themed Reading Is out of This World – continues with the Scholastic Spring Book Fair. It will be held April 7 from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. in the gym.
In addition, as part of Bower’s PARP, visit the LML between April 1-8 and enter your name in a raffle. Complete reading logs and contracts, and hand in activity packets to win more prizes.
