What's happening includes the scoop on last night's school budget meeting and the LMS play.
It’s April Fools’ Day, but the weather is no joke. The weather feels more like winter, still, than spring. At least the snow missed us!
The school budget is also no joke this morning. It was discussed at last night’s that took place at 7 p.m. at the . The big news out of that meeting was that the board did not finalize the budget as scheduled.
And that’s the first thing you need to know today. Here’s today’s complete top five:

1. Look for the story later today about last night’s , the latest in the month-long series of presented by the Board of Education. It was held once again at the high school auditorium.

2. This weekend the (LMS) students perform  Bye Bye Birdie on stage tonight and tomorrow night (April 1 and 2) under the direction of Marie Simmons and Karen Kanavas. These long-time members of the LMS PTA have been successfully directing  students for 17 years, noted the PTA. Tickets are on sale now for the Friday and Saturday night shows. They are $6.00 each. The show starts each night at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available to purchase during intermission. For more information, please call Regina Cuffaro, LMS PTA president, at 631-957-2461.
3. In addition, the (LMS) PTA’s continues today from 6 a.m. to noon. Funds raised by the daily charity event go toward the LMS PTA, so it’s asking for donations of unwanted used clothing and domestics. The drop-off container is located near north side of the LMS.
4. Today the (LML) starts a couple of new programs. The first is the 3 Apples Book Award, which runs through April 17. The LML invites its young patrons to cast their ballots for the 2011 award. Choose from 15 titles, in three age categories, that were nominated last fall. Pick up a ballot from the Children’s Room to cast your vote for the 2011 winner in your age category.
Library Bingo, which runs all month, encourages reading. Make bingo by completing the reading activities on your bingo card. Bring the completed card in by April 30 to get a prize.
