'Good Food' Keeps Brother's Deli Customers Coming Back

Owner Lou Chiodo says keeping it 'basic' has kept customers coming back to the Lindenhurst deli.

Delis are among the few businesses that Lindy can never seem to get enough of, and each one has its own loyal following.

, located at 85 West Montauk Highway, is no different.

It's been around for the past 30 years, but Lou Chiodo has owned the Lindenhurst business for nearly a decade.

"I bought it eight years ago," Chiodo recently told Lindenhurst Patch. And it's been doing a steady stream of business despite the ups and downs of the economy during that time.

"It's not easy, [but] I'm really happy with the community's response to it," he said.

Chiodo - who also owns another deli at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury (Westbury Music Fair) - was drawn to Lindenhurst because of the people.

"I liked the town and the people. It's really a nice community," said.

In fact, he likes Lindy so much that he recently held a for the Christina Renna Foundation, the created by the Lindenhurst-based Renna family and named after the daughter the family lost to childhood cancer several years ago.

RJ Renna is a frequent customer of the deli, but it was Chiodo who came up with the idea the dunk tank fundraising effort dubbed, "Brother's Deli 'Dunks' Cancer with Beauty and the Beast," on July 28.

By noon that day the event raised $700, and it was on track to raise roughly a $1,000 for the charity.

But when Chiodo isn't giving back to the community, he keeps business at the deli going by simply offering a variety "good food," he said.

The humble owner added there's no secret to the business' longevity other than that.

"We just keep it basic. We offer heroes, egg sandwiches," said Chiodo, who's always owned his own business.

"We have home-made salads - and the best potato salad. We do sell a lot of salads."

The deli is open daily for breakfast and lunch, and also offers catering - a specialty of the business.
