Heat Advisory Issued for Lindenhurst
Summer temperatures, humidity soar across Long Island.
The heat is on!
So much so that a heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service in Upton on Tuesday that’s in effect from noon to 9 p.m. EDT, according to a statement on the NWS website and Weather.com.
The advisory covers western Suffolk County, which includes Lindenhurst, and all of Nassau County.

“A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 100 to 104 degrees for two consecutive hours,” according to the NWS statement.
The NWS advisory also warned residents of the following weather-related hazards associated with soaring summer temperatures:

- High levels of heat and humidity.
- Heat index values up to 102 degrees.
- The highest heat indices will be experienced Tuesday afternoon.
- Adverse health effects will be possible if the proper precautions aren’t taken.
The NWS heat advisory also outlined those precautions:
- When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
In addition, the statement included a recommendation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to reduce risk during outdoor work:
- Schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
“Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 911,” advised the NWS in the same statement.
