Lindy Man on Parole Nabbed after Breaking into Patchogue Home

Police say Anthony Mendolia allegedly burglarized an elderly Pathogue resident's home on Friday.

A Lindenhurst man on parole was arrested on Friday by Suffolk Police for allegedly burglarizing a earlier in the day.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, an alert neighbor called the police after observing Anthony Mendolia, 27, leaving the rear of an elderly neighbor’s Patchogue residence with a backpack.

Police said the neighbor, who was checking on the elderly resident's house, saw Mendolia leaving the rear yard with a backpack at approximately 11:50 a.m. on August 3.

The neighbor followed Mendolia, who then ran away, police said. Then the neighbor called 911 and provided a description to responding Fifth Precinct officers.

Police Officer Marc Sforza observed the subject a short distance away, according to police officials. They said when Mendolia saw the officer, he fled on foot through several yards.

Assisting Officers Jeremy Fanning, Edward Ryby and Charles Teufel were able to locate and subdue Mendolia a short distance away, at approximately 12:03 p.m., police said.

Mendolia was found in possession of several thousand dollars’ worth of jewelry, which was taken from the residence, police noted, adding the homeowner identified the items - many of which were irreplaceable family heirlooms.

Mendolia was also in possession of rubber gloves, a pry bar and a hypodermic needle, police said.

was charged with burglary, second degree, criminal possession of stolen property, fourth degree, possession of burglar’s tools and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Police said he's also wanted for a violation of a parole warrant.

Mendolia is being held overnight at the Fifith Precinct, and is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on August 4.
