Murphy, Hochman Re-Elected as BOE President, VP

Both embark on another year in their respective positions, as Julie Bartolomeo joins fellow new BOE member Valerie McKenna.

In a paneled, air-conditioned room in the usually reserved for Lindenhurst Board of Education executive sessions, and Donna Hochman were re-elected as president and vice president, respectively, during the annual BOE reorganization meeting this week.

also took her place on the board as it began its new year, joining fellow new member , who was actually sworn in the night of the budget vote on when she was elected over . McKenna is filling the seat vacated by who resigned from the board of education this past September.

As the BOE embarks on a new year, all nine spots are now filled on the board.

“Welcome to Mrs. Bartolomeo,” said Superintendent Richard Nathan at the . “I look forward to working with the entire board.”

Murphy, Bartolomeo and McKenna were all back in May and . Murphy, a 15-year BOE veteran, won over challenger .

Murphy’s been grateful for his re-election and for the passing of the for the 2011-12 school year, giving his thanks to the community not only at BOE meetings following the budget and school board , but also at the and ceremonies.

Continuing in the same vein, Murphy said at the start of the regular meeting, “I want to thank you for your vote of confidence, and I look forward to working with all of you again, and continuing to do more with less."

Newcomer Bartolomeo ran against 15-year BOE veteran , who was recently honored by the board for his years of work.

’s spot on the board was not up for re-election this year.
