Tesla Fire Spreads To Chevy Tahoe, Building In Lindenhurst
The Tesla was destroyed, Suffolk police said.
LINDENHURST, NY — A Tesla was destroyed by fire in Lindenhurst just after midnight Thursday, Suffolk police said.
The 911 call came in at 12:40 a.m, police said. Before firefighters had the blaze extinguished, it had spread to a Chevrolet Tahoe and a nearby building at Surfside 3 Marina on South Wellwood Avenue.
Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives are investigating; following a preliminary investigation, they believe the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature.

In 2023, Vox reported that the rate of Tesla fires is lower than internal combustion vehicles, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Still, they're a challenge because electric vehicles burn at much higher temperatures and the blazes need a lot more water to fight.
