March 16: Belly Dancing, Meditation, Networking

Get the scoop on what's going on in the city this each weekday.

Visit Patch each weekday morning to find out the five things you need to know about Long Beach for the day. Whether there’s an important City Council meeting, a car wash fundraiser coming, or you need to catch up on stories you missed, we’ll make sure you stay informed about what’s shaping your city. Here are the top five things you need to know for Wednesday:

1. Belly dancing at a temple? Yes, the Sisterhood at Temple Emanu-El will host a fundraiser today and Mar. 30, between 7 and 8 p.m., featuring belly-dancing lessons with Meredith Zelman Narissi.

2. So, you're looking to do something mellower than belly dancing? Well, the Long Beach Library will hold a meditation class at 2:15 p.m. Instructor Lisa Wisel will go over breathing techniques, body sensations and easy stretches.

3. We get it, you’re more about business than belly dancing and meditating, right? Then head over to the Allegria Hotel from 4 p.m. to midnight for the networking event the hotel hosts each Wednesday. Make sure to bring your business cards!

4. Long Beach High School parents and teacher will gather at the school for a conference together at 6:30 p.m. These parent-teacher conferences offer parents a chance to talk to their children's teachers and learn what they are doing in the classroom.

5. Later today on Long Beach Patch: Don’t forget to join in on our Wednesday feature Moms Talk, a forum where local moms and dads discuss parenting issues. Our Moms Council will lead the talk by answer a question about swimming lessons and beach safety. Come back after 1 p.m. and join the discussion. And in case you missed it yesterday, we posted an updated story on the fate of the East School.
