3-Hour Armed Standoff Ends Peacefully In Poughkeepsie

A 28-year-old man displayed a shotgun when the sheriff's deputy arrives at the location.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — An armed standoff in the town of Poughkeepsie ended peacefully Wednesday.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Shawn R. Magliocchino, 28, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested and charged with felony menacing a police or peace officer.

Authorities said, shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy from the sheriff’s office’s Civil Division went to 21 Pleasant View Rd. in Poughkeepsie to serve an eviction warrant.

Upon arrival, contact was made with Magliocchino, who then displayed a shotgun, the deputy said, and refused to cooperate with the service of the warrant.

Numerous personnel from the sheriff’s office and Poughkeepsie town police responded, including emergency services and hostage negotiators.

Magliocchino eventually surrendered peacefully around 12:20 p.m.

Law enforcement said, at the time of the incident, there was another family member inside the residence. However, they left peacefully and were not harmed.

After being processed on the charge, Magliocchino was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by members of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response.

The investigation is continuing, authorities said.
