LAGRANGE, NY — Procedures to enter Arlington school district buildings are being reviewed after the mother of a student slipped by security Tuesday morning during high school arrival.

According to an email to the community from Superintendent David Moyer, there was a fight between two female students Tuesday morning and the mother of one of them arrived at the high school with her daughter and came into the building without authorization.

The woman’s clothing and physical size allowed her to enter the building as a large group of students were doing so, he said.

“While our security team does an exception job of supervising our points of entry during arrival,” Moyer said, “the parent was able to blend in with the students.”

He said that was unacceptable, and it necessitated a prompt and detailed review of the district’s procedures and personnel to ensure the buildings are as safe and secure as possible.

Moyer said any changes to district procedures will be shared with the community as soon as possible.

According to district protocol, all visitors to school buildings must enter through the main entrance and check in with security upon arrival. All high school students are expected to wear their IDs at all times.

“A violation of our visitor protocol is taken very seriously and comes with significant consequences,” Moyer said. “The students and the mother involved in yesterday’s incident will be held accountable for their actions under the District Code of Conduct and the law.”

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, MidHudson News reported, but there are currently no charges against the students or the mother.

Moyer said that anyone with any information about the incident should contact a school administrator, use the Quick Tip Anonymous reporting app or call the sheriff’s office at 845-486-3800.
