School Bus Strikes, Kills Child In Kiryas Joel

Police said the child ran into the roadway as the bus was approaching Sunday morning.

KIRYAS JOEL, NY — A child was killed in Kiryas Joel Sunday after being struck by a school bus.

The New York State Police said the 6-year-old boy ran into the roadway in front of the bus and was hit.

A yellow 2022 Blue Bird Bus from EMESS Transportation was traveling northeast on Seven Springs Mountain Road around 11 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The driver continued on, but returned to the scene a short time later, according to authorities.

Police said the operator was not impaired, and at this point, the accident appears to be non-criminal in nature.
