Semiconductor Plant Employees To Be Laid Off, Rehired In East Fishkill

The manufacturing business was purchased by another company that is slated to take over Jan. 1.

FISHKILL, NY — More than 1,000 employees of a semiconductor manufacturer in Dutchess County will be laid off at the end of the year, but that’s not the whole story.

The New York Department of Labor issued a layoff notice for GlobalFoundries U.S. in East Fishkill saying that 1,056 employees, which is the entire workforce, will be laid off Dec. 31.

The business was sold to ON Semiconductor Corporation, which has made offers of employment to all affected employees.

The new offer of employment will be effective Jan. 1.

ON Semiconductor, which is also known as Onsemi, has manufacturing and design locations around North America and in Europe and Asia Pacific.

The company agreed in April 2019 to buy GlobalFoundaries’ East Fishkill plant, located at 2070 Route 52 in East Fishkill, for $430 million, according to a news release.
