Ulster Man Assaults, Injures 2 With Rock: NYSP

The man is facing three felonies charges, police said.

ACCORD, NY — An Ulster County man was arrested after being accused of assaulting two people in Accord.

The New York State Police said David V. Underhill-Hval, 34, of Kerhonkson, was arrested Wednesday.

Authorities said the investigation found that, around 3:45 p.m. Sept. 3, Underhill-Hval was at a home on Dymond Road when he violently assaulted someone, striking the victim in the head numerous times with a rock, causing severe injuries.

During the attack, police said another person who intervened was also injured, suffering multiple bruises and cuts.

Underhill-Hval fled from the area after the attack, and troopers were unable to locate him. They did, however, find the rock that was used as a weapon in the assault.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A warrant was obtained for Underhill-Hval’s arrest Sept. 20 from the Town of Rochester Court.

On Wednesday, he turned himself in and was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies, and third-degree assault, second-degree menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, all misdemeanors.

Underhill-Hval was arraigned in the Town of Rochester Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of bail.

State police were assisted by the Town of Saugerties Police Department.
