Ulster Man Drove Drunk, Crashed Car In Saugerties: Police

Police said the man was able to get out of the car by himself, but was injured in the crash.

SAUGERTIES, NY — An early morning rollover car crash injured an Ulster County man who was the accused of drunken driving.

The Saugerties Police Department said, around 4:15 a.m Sunday, they were called to a one-car rollover car crash on Glasco Turnpike in the area of Highbank Road in the town of Saugerties.

Police said Brandon G. Norton, 22, of Shokan, was driving a 1998 Honda Civic when he failed to negotiate a crest on the roadway due to speeding.

His car went off the roadway, rolling over several times before striking a tree.

Norton was able to get out of the car by himself but was injured during the crash, police said.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics from DIAZ ambulance and firefighters from the Centerville Cedar Grove Fire Department.

Norton was flown by Life-Net medivac to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Investigation by police found that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to authorities.

Norton was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and speed not reasonable and prudent, failure to keep right and failure to wear a seatbelt, violations.

Police said Norton was to be in serious but stable condition in the hospital.
