Volunteer Firefighter Struck By Vehicle In Newburgh

Officials said the firefighter was working on getting a water supply line to the blaze.

CRONOMER VALLEY, NY — A volunteer firefighter who was helping to battle a brush fire was struck by a vehicle Thursday in the town of Newburgh.

The Cronomer Valley Fire Department said its members were responding around 4:15 p.m. Thursday to a brush fire at Meadow Street and Catalpa Road.

Officials said the firefighter, who wishes to remain anonymous, was hit by the vehicle while obtaining a water supply line on Chestnut Lane.

He was taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation and was released Thursday evening for followup with his doctors.

The fire department wanted to remind residents that no open fires are allowed in the town of Newburgh. Leaves can be bagged for pickup at curbside by the Town of Newburgh Highway Department beginning Monday.

The Cronomer Valley Fire Department was assisted by the Middlehope, Good Will, Winona Lake and Plattekill fire departments, the Town of Newburgh EMS and MLSS and the town of Newburgh and state police.
