Wallkill Man Sentenced For Shooting Outside Restaurant
Police said Hector Luna thought he was shooting a police officer.
WALLKILL, NY — A Wallkill man who admitted shooting someone outside a restaurant who he thought was a police officer found out Tuesday he will be going to prison.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said Hector Luna Jr., 28, of Wallkill, was sentenced to seven and a half years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision in connection with his guilty plea to first-degree assault.
Luna admitted shooting a man in front of the You You Asian Restaurant and Bar, located at 465 Route 211, in the town of Wallkill on April 14, 2021.

The victim of the shooting had been dining in the restaurant just before the shooting. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Prosecutors said Luna was taken into custody at the Hampton Inn hotel in Pike County, Pennsylvania, waived extradition to New York.

Hoovler said the plea agreement in the case was reached in October after consultation with the victim to avoid having to testify at trial.
He said violent crimes, such as committed by Luna, have significant and often life-long impact on crime victims.
“This disposition spares the victim the additional trauma of reliving this horrific incident in front of a jury,” Hoovler said.
“As I have made clear, gun violence is a priority for my office and will not be tolerated,” he said.
