O’Neil will serve the remainder of the current term of executive, which ends Dec. 31, 2023. A general election will be held Nov. 7 for a new four-year term to begin Jan. 1, 2024.
The vacancy was created by Marc Molinaro’s election to serve as representative of Congressional District 19. Molinaro’s resignation as executive was effective at 11:59 a.m. Tuesday. Because the House of Representatives has not selected a speaker, no members of Congress have been sworn in for the new session.
O’Neil is a Hyde Park native, who served as executive director for the Children’s Services Council of Dutchess County, following many years as an executive in the health care software industry.
He now resides in the town of Poughkeepsie with his wife Gail.
