MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — One of the oldest ice cream franchises in the country opened a new store Monday in the Macy's Herald Square flagship.

Carvel celebrated National Soft Serve Day by cutting the ribbon on its newest store on the seventh floor of the Herald Square department store on West 34th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue. The store offered a special deal to celebrate its opening: A soft ice cream cup or cone for the price of a minimum $2 donation to the American Red Cross.

"We’re thrilled to open this new Carvel shoppe! Pairing our classic New York brand with another New York institution, Macy’s Herald Square, is an incredible opportunity that allows us to introduce our new and signature products to even more guests," Carvel President, Kristen Hartman said in a statement.
