Person Hit, Killed By E Train In Midtown, Officials Say

A person was struck shortly before noon at the Lexington Avenue and East 53rd Street station.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A person was struck and killed by a train Wednesday at a Midtown Manhattan subway station, MTA and fire officials announced.

The person was struck around 11:50 a.m. at the Lexington Avenue and East 53rd Street station, MTA officials said. Southbound E and M trains were re-rerouted as emergency personnel operated on the scene, according to officials.

The person was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS, an FDNY spokesman said. The spokesman couldn't confirm any other information about the person.

Passengers, including an AM New York reporter, were evacuated from an E train at the station.

Delays and service changes on both southbound and northbound E, F and M trains were in effect Wednesday afternoon, MTA officials said.
