Suspect Makes Off With 86 Pounds of Gold from Armored Truck: Police
A brazen robber stole a drum of gold from a truck, with the agents completely unaware, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A brazen robber lifted a drum of gold from the back of an armored truck in Midtown, and took off with security guards not even realizing it was gone.
According to police, a man pilfered an 86-pound drum of gold from the back of a Loomis Armored truck in front of 48 W. 48th St. at 5:28 p.m. on Thursday. The armed guard did not see the man take off with the gold, right in the middle of Midtown Manhattan — a block from Rockefeller Center and across the street from Christie's New York Auction House.
The truck's personnel loaded up and went to their next delivery location before realizing the tin of gold was missing, according to an NYPD spokesman. The New York Daily News reports the drum of gold was worth $1.5 million.
