Miller Place High Schooler Wins National Junior Ice Skating Title
Sydney Gilroy, a junior at Miller Place High School, was part of a winning synchronized ice skating team, taking the U.S. Junior top spot.

MILLER PLACE, NY — One Miller Place High School student is balancing her high school life with a national sports career. Sydney Gilroy, a junior, recently became a national champion at synchronized figure skating with her team, taking the title of Junior champions at the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships in March.
Gilroy was named to Team USA figure skating in December 2021, according to Miller Place Schools. She took fourth place at the Fall Classic in Irvine, California, and third place in the Boston Classic in Norwood, Massachusetts.
In March, in Colorado, Gilroy and her team, Team Image, took the top spot at the national championships, performing the song "Oceans" by Hillsong United.

Miller Place School District congratulated the student-athlete recently and shared that "Sydney practices with her team three to four days a week and is dedicated and passionate about balancing the sport she loves with her academic career."
Team United was profiled by Skating magazine after the win. Members of the team, which come from across New York and New Jersey, told the magazine that taking the title was "a dream...the pinnacle of our journey."
