ROCKY POINT, NY – The Rocky Point cheerleaders earned second place at the National High School Cheerleading Championships this past weekend.
Led by coaches Anna Spallina and Arianna Scanlon, the school district’s varsity team performed two flawless, zero-deduction hit routines to earn second place at the National High School Cheerleading Championships this past weekend.
The team’s performance marked the first time this season the routine was performed with the original 16 athletes on the mat, after injuries and COVID-19 protocols sidelined some athletes.
Seniors Marisa Coniglione, Cassidy Gerace, Giovana Improta and Amber Sanchez led the team through one of the most chaotic seasons imaginable, according to Spallina.
“To say that we are proud of this team would be an understatement,” Spallina said in a statement. “Coaching these young, focused, committed athletes was an honor, and we will always remember [them] as our 2022 champions.”
