Rocky Point Seeks Input to Educate About Destructive Behavior
School district planning Drug Free Community Forum on April 5.

The Rocky Point School District sought input as it worked this November to plan a spring Drug Free Community Forum, continuing with its proactive efforts toward educating the community’s youth about the dangers of engaging in destructive behaviors.
During the meeting, attendees – which included district administrators, representatives from community support organizations, elected officials and parents – were informed of the previous efforts the district had taken, as well as data obtained from a student assessment survey and focus group discussions conducted at the secondary level.
Support service providers and John Venza, vice president of adolescent services, OUTREACH, spoke about the resources they offer to those battling addiction as well as the rise in heroin and opioid use across the region. Elected officials discussed how the town and county are working to combat this matter, and Suffolk County COPE officer Steven Hughes spoke about his work.

The data shared during the planning meeting will serve as the basis for the spring community forum. All members of the community are invited to attend the April 5 Drug Free Community Forum, which will begin at 7 p.m. at Rocky Point High School.
