A flood watch is in effect for Nassau County through Thursday evening.

MINEOLA, NY — With a flood watch in effect through Thursday evening in Nassau, County officials addressed the likelihood of serious weather.

Blakeman said he's activated the county's Office of Emergency Management with the potential for up to 2-3 inches of rain per hour, Blakeman said.

Preparations also involve the possibility for strong wind gusts.

The county executive said they will have up to 20 high-axle vehicles available in the stormy weather.
Blakeman said the best way for residents to prepare for Mother Nature is to "stay home this evening, unless it's absolutely necessary for you to go out."
Roads, especially after dark, could become dangerous with flooding conditions. Blakeman announced all non-essential county workers would be dismissed early, ahead of worsening weather.
County officials are focused on the locales along the north and south shore, which are prone to flooding conditions.
To report a downed wire, residents should call PSEG Long Island at 1-800-490-0075.
The County's Emergency Management Center is 516-573-9600.
