• North Merrick Man Who Attempted To Bomb Social Services Building Sentenced To Nine Years In Prison: DA (patch.com) — Mineola-based prosecutors detailed how a North Merrick man received a nine-year prison sentence after attempting to ignite propane tanks outside Nassau County’s Department of Social Services building, prompting evacuations and a major bomb-squad response. Officials say he also admitted to separate explosive incidents in North Merrick and a complex mortgage and identity-theft scheme that left relatives with heavy debts.
   

• Pediatric Patients with Low-Risk AML Can Receive Fewer Cycles of Chemotherapy (cancertherapyadvisor.com) — Mineola residents may be interested to know that a pediatric oncologist from NYU Langone Health in Mineola helped present new research suggesting some children with low-risk acute myeloid leukemia can safely receive one fewer chemotherapy cycle. The large multi-trial analysis found that carefully selected low-risk patients maintained strong survival and relapse outcomes with four cycles, potentially reducing long-term treatment toxicity for families facing childhood leukemia.
   

• SIENA POLL: Hochul holds large leads over Stefanik; Blakeman (saratogian.com) — Mineola residents may notice Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s name in a new Siena poll, where Gov. Kathy Hochul holds a wide lead over him and Rep. Elise Stefanik in potential 2026 matchups. The statewide survey also shows strong support for taxing millionaires to fund universal childcare, mixed views on free NYC bus fares, and continued skepticism toward Donald Trump’s actions.
