Nassau Man Gets 20 Years Behind Bars For Sexually Abusing Child For 5 Years: DA

The 59-year-old man was convicted after a trial in March on first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, prosecutors said.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A Port Washington man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing a victim at his home for approximately five years, prosecutors said.

The 59-year-old man was convicted after a trial in March on first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.

“The victim in this case should have been safe and supported at the home of her babysitter, free to enjoy her childhood. Instead, the defendant stole years of innocence away from her with calculated and vile actions,” Donnelly said. “Today’s sentence has delivered justice and accountability, and ensures the defendant has no opportunity to prey on another victim."

The defendant’s wife began babysitting the victim when she was a baby. In 2014, when the victim turned four years old, the defendant began to sexually abuse her while she was present at his home and being cared for by his wife, Donnelly said.

The abuse continued until the victim was about nine years old and no longer went to his house for childcare.

The victim, now a teenager, disclosed the abuse to a school guidance counselor when she was 12 years old, Donnelly said.

He was arrested at his home in Port Washington on June 15, 2023.

He is represented by attorney Dennis Lemke.
