Person Hit, Killed By Train Near Mineola: LIRR

The person was hit during rush hour Tuesday night, officials said.

MINEOLA, NY — A person was killed after they were hit by a train near the Mineola train station Tuesday evening, officials said.

According to the Long Island Rail Road, the person was struck by an eastbound train near the Mineola station at 6:37 p.m. It is not immediately known how the individual wound up on the train tracks.

The LIRR said the incident caused 45 to 60 delays in both directions on the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, Oyster Bay, and Huntington branches.

Full service was restored by 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

An investigation has been launched, and authorities are still working to identify the individual, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said Thursday.
