PSEG Subcontractor Electrocuted Working On Nassau Power Lines
Police say the man had been working on power lines when he was shocked.
NEW CASSEL, NY — A utility worker had to be taken to a hospital after police said he was electrocuted while working on power lines in New Cassel.
The worker, a 34-year-old subcontractor for PSEG, was working on Old Country Road, near Arlington Street, around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when he was shocked, police said. The man was taken to a hospital where police said he was in stable condition.
Tropical Storm Isaias downed trees and power lines Tuesday leaving hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders in the dark for days. As of noon Sunday, PSEG Long Island said about 35,000 homes and businesses still did not have power out of about 420,000 that were affected by the storm on Tuesday. The utility said it expected to have most customers restored by the end of Sunday, with some jobs continuing into Monday.

"While we have made steady progress overnight, we are finding that each job is requiring more work than anticipated due to the extent of the storm's damage," the utility wrote on its website. "We realize this is frustrating and appreciate our customers' understanding of the magnitude of the damage the storm created."
The utility noted that more than 5,600 line-workers, tree trimmers and other crews were working around the clock in 16-hour shifts until every customer saw power restored.
