'Violent' Man Assaults Police Officer At Jericho Terrace: Officials

A 29-year-old man assaulted a Nassau County police officer at Jericho Terrace in Mineola, authorities said.

MINEOLA, NY — A Nassau County police officer was assaulted Saturday while trying to arrest a disruptive and combative man at Jericho Terrace in Mineola, authorities said.

Shortly after 12 a.m., officers were dispatched for a disturbance at the catering hall on Jericho Turnpike. Upon arrival, police said they saw John Demonte Alarcon, 29, of Rhode Island, "acting in an aggressive (manner)" with a 50-year-old man who had been punched in the face.

An officer was injured while trying to arrest Alarcon, who was described as being "violent and combative." The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Alarcon has been charged with assault, harassment, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
