NY To Help Fund Health Care Projects At 3 Rockland Facilities

The money comes through a program to keep safety net health care providers financially sustainable and preserve essential care.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — With health care in crisis across the nation, New York is continuing a program to help ensure the financial sustainability of safety net health care providers and the preservation of essential health care services, providing more than $658 million in new funding to support 127 projects, including three in Rockland County.

The Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program is also aimed at supporting efforts to reduce health care costs and improve outcomes for New Yorkers by expanding access to inpatient, primary, preventative, and other ambulatory care services as part of regionally integrated health care delivery systems.

The three local facilities receiving funds are:

  • Green Hills Estate Home for Adults: $1,204,945 for capital improvements to modernize the facility in Haverstraw and enhance resident safety and welfare
  • Jawonio: $2,200,000 to purchase a building in Nanuet to relocate behavioral health services to a more accessible location to increase access to PROS program services
  • Montefiore Nyack Foundation: $4,176,317 to renovate and modernize Extended Care Unit that includes an inpatient recovery unit and labor and delivery unit

So far, New York State has awarded nearly $1.68 billion in phases through the program, administered by the State Department of Health and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

The state will award an additional $1.15 billion in the fourth phase. Also, Gov. Kathy Hochul's FY 2024 Executive Budget includes $1 billion in additional funding to establish the fifth phase.

"New Yorkers deserve access to quality health care and a strong, stable, and equitable health care system," Hochul said in a statement about the awards. "These grants will provide critical funding for improvements at hospitals and other facilities throughout our state to ensure they deliver the top rate care New Yorkers deserve."
