Rockland County Wants To Help You Find Your Unclaimed Money

Residents will be able to submit new claims and check the status of existing claims at five planned unclaimed fund events.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — There's a surprisingly good chance you might be owed some money and officials want to help reunite constituents and their unclaimed funds.

Rockland County and County Executive Ed Day announced a series of five upcoming unclaimed fund events taking place in each town across the county to allow residents to check if they have unclaimed funds.

The Office of the New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli reports that there is $18.4 billion in lost money across New York State with the office returning $1.5 million daily to those filing claims.

Day encourages residents to attend and submit new claims or check on existing claims.

"This is something I’ve personally shared on social media many times because occasionally, after that reminder, at least one person out there ends up finding a few extra bucks they would never have known about," Day said, announcing the events. "Where does it come from? Abandoned bank accounts, insurance companies, courts, and more. We urge our residents who are unsure to swing by one of the events to check if they have unclaimed funds."
