Spring Valley Apartment Fire Forces Nearly 100 Out Into The Cold

Fire officials said one firefighter was injured when a roof collapsed.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — Nearly 100 people were forced from Spring Valley homes because of an early morning fire Sunday.

A fire broke out at the Surrey Carlton Apartments on Slinn Avenue in Spring Valley around 5 a.m., causing seven buildings to be evacuated, News 12 reported.

No cause of the fire has been announced, but investigators said it looks to have begun on the second floor in a hallway.

Fire officials said that 63 adults and 23 children were displaced from the complex.

Many spent the night at the Louis Kurtz Center, which was opened by the mayor and trusted and staffed by the Red Cross, WABC-TV reported.

One firefighter was injured in a roof collapse, and he was treated at a hospital and released.
