Spring Valley Man Given State's Highest Honor For Act Of Heroism

SPRING VALLEY, NY — A Spring Valley man was honored by being given the state’s highest honor for an individual Sunday.

Jean Donald Mathieu helped save an 8-month-old child and two women from a fire Feb. 3 and was given the Liberty Medal on Sunday for his actions, the Journal News reported.

State Sen. Bill Weber, R-Montebello, gave Mathieu the made during a meeting of the Haitian Cultural Preservation Inc.
