The animal got its head wedged in a hole, according to police.

RAMAPO, NY — A hungry local squirrel should have stuck to residents’ bird feeders for its latest meal.
When the squirrel recently tried to find food in a dumpster, it got its head stuck and needed some human intervention to get out of its predicament.
The Ramapo Police Department recently detailed the critter’s dramatic rescue on its Facebook page.

Police summoned firefighters from Hillcrest Fire Co. No. 1 to assist in what police dubbed, “Operation Nutcracker Extraction.”
Drone footage from the scene shows firefighters surrounding the red dumpster, with a firefighter ultimately bringing the squirrel out to safety.
“We can now confirm the squirrel is safe, unarrested, and currently on probation from any future trash diving,” police said.
In a funny post filled with puns, police called the case its most “cracking” yet. The post has already garnered multiple comments from the community thanking emergency personnel for their efforts to rescue the squirrel.
