Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: LEGO Resale Store

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

Mailing Drive Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to assist with stuffing, stamping and mailing envelopes to support STEM Alliance's Summer Co-Op Program campaign. This program serves 245 youths with a five-week enhanced STEM education learning and recreational experience in the Mamaroneck school district. This project is perfect for teens 13+.
Date: Feb. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

High School Advocacy Program
Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic is seeking young people ages 15-18 to join its High School Advocacy Program where they will learn to advocate for themselves and their communities. The group meets virtually once a week, and teens will learn how to lobby their elected officials, take action in their communities and more. At the end of the program, teen participants will work with their teammates to plan a community action or training. Upon completion of the program, teens receive a letter of recommendation from Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic staff and verification of community service.
Date: Feb. 6 to March 26 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Thursdays

Cleanup at Muscoot Farm
Volunteers are needed to remove invasive shrubs and vines from along hay fields at Muscoot Farm. All supplies will be provided; this is a great opportunity for families, students, court-ordered volunteers and groups.
Date: Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon

LEGO Resale Store Volunteers
Brick It Again is a donation-based, LEGO resale store that is operated by individuals in Jawonio's pre-vocational, mental health and community employment services. Open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., it takes pride in being an inclusive space that employs individuals with disabilities. Volunteers are needed to help sort, wash and build LEGO sets in order to transform generous donations into treasures for the store. Volunteers can come in on a regular basis or for a one-time shift. Groups from businesses and corporations, students and individuals are all welcome.
