Power Restored to All But 48 in Southold Town

PSEG crews are working to restore the issues.

Update: Power has been restored to all but 48 homes in Southold Town as of 7:59 p.m. Widespread outages were reported in Orient during the storm Saturday, but PSEG worked throughout the day to get service up and running.

Original story: A blast of blizzard conditions, including heavy snow and high winds, have left 356 customers without power in Southold Town.

PSEG Long Island has reported that, as of 9:30 a.m. 1,065 of its 1.1 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are without power.

While snow or wind don’t normally pose a problem for an electric system, combined and with the potential for ice on lines and trees, there can be an increase in downed wires and power outages, LIPA representatives said. These conditions also make it difficult for our crews to get around. It is unsafe for crews to go up in buckets to make repairs if there are high winds.

PSEG said the goal is always to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. “We ask our customers for a fair amount of patience and to know we will be there just as soon as it is safe,” the release said.
