ICE Agents Spotted Again In Greenport Sunday: Police

Police said ICE contacted them to say they would be operating in the Greenport area.

NORTH FORK, NY — ICE agents were seen again in Greenport Sunday morning, police confirmed.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Steve Grattan: "They contacted our headquarters to let us know they would be operating in the area."

No further details were immediately available, he said.

The news sparked outcry from some residents, after photos on social media showed the ICE agents in the Adams Street parking lot, behind the laundromat.

According to Tu Prensa Local, people were reportedly arrested and a man, who had young children, was ordered to appear in court; one child has cancer, the outlet reported. Another person's children were pleading and crying, the outlet said.

Police could not immediately confirm that information.

Representative for ICE did not immediately return a request for comment.

"We must resist," one East End resident wrote online.

The incident marked the second time ICE agents were spotted in Greenport in a week, police confirmed.

A photo of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the village was posted on social media, stating that the ICE action had taken place at around 8 a.m. on July 26.

Southold Town Police Chief Steven Grattan confirmed, a week ago: "ICE was in Greenport yesterday morning looking for a specific target. The target was located and apprehended. One additional individual who was with the target was also taken into custody," he said.
