LI Set To Weather First Snowfall Accumulation Of The Season

LONG ISLAND, NY — Get the snow shovels ready: Long Island is set to see the first snow accumulation of the season this weekend.
According to James Tomasini, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Upton, the snow is likely begin Saturday night and extend into the early afternoon hours on Sunday. Across Long Island, snow totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected, with the lower amounts expected in Nassau County and in western Suffolk, and the higher totals slated for the East End.
Temperatures Saturday are expected to reach highs in the lower 40s before dropping below freezing Saturday night and hovering in that range until Tuesday. Highs for Sunday through Tuesday will remain right around the freezing mark, Tomasini said.

Winds are expected behind the storm Sunday evening, with 30 to 35 mile per hour gusts expected.
Tomasini urged residents to keep updated with forecast information; if snowfall confidence increases, a Winter Weather Advisory may be issued, he said.
