Tommy John Schiavoni Victorious In 1st Assembly District Race
The votes have been cast. See who is expected to replace longtime New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Voters headed to the polls on Tuesday to decide who would win the race for New York's 1st Assembly District seat. Voters were asked to choose between Stephen Kiely (R) and Tommy John Schiavoni (D) to fill the seat held by longtime NYS Assemblyman Fred Thiele — and Schiavoni emerged the winner.
According to unofficial results by the Suffolk County Board of Elections, with three districts left to report as of 12:28 a.m. Wednesday, Schiavoni, a Southampton Town board member, won the race with 55.93 percent, or 33,284 votes; Kiely garnered 44.02 percent, or 26,196 votes.
Thiele, who served since 1995, announced he would not be running again in February.
