Shelter Island Woman Charged With E-Biking While Intoxicated After Crash: Police

She hit a curb, leading to a crash, police say.

SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A Shelter Island woman was arrested Friday after she rode an e-bike while intoxicated and crashed, police said.

According to Shelter Island police, the initial incident took place on June 3 at about 3:14 p.m. Melissa Paller, 47, was operating an e-bike on Shelter Island when she struck a curb, resulting in a crash, police said. Due to suspected and sustained injuries, she was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for medical treatment, police said.

On August 15, she voluntarily surrendered to police and was placed under arrest, authorities said. She was charged with operating an e-bike while intoxicated, and then issued a desk appearance ticket to appear in Shelter Island Town Justice Court at a later date, police said.
