Summer Lighthouse Lecture: History of the Holland Submarine
Free lecture about the famous Holland Submarine tested in the waters off the North Fork

Southold Historical Museum continues the Lighthouse Lecture Series at Horton Point Lighthouse. The upcoming lecture is titled “History of the Holland Submarine” and will be presented by Ray Nofi.
Carrying the name of its inventor, John Philip Holland, the Holland was the first submarine to be
commissioned by the United States Navy. It was tested in the waters off New Suffolk at the Goldsmith and Tuttle Shipyard. Fans of Long Island maritime history, and those less familiar, will not want to miss the upcoming talk as the topic is both fascinating and noteworthy. Nofi is an interesting speaker who generously shares his insights and knowledge. The Horton Point Lighthouse lawn offers an intimate and inspiring setting for visitors to come and relax, listen, and learn.
Ray Nofi is a Professor Emeritus of St. Joseph's University who taught Humanities as well as Global Economics and Business. Prior to his academic career of almost 30 years, he was president of the international division of a major American retailer. With an interest in community service and in local history, Nofi began volunteering at Southold Historical Museum’s Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse ten years ago and now serves at the Committee Co-Chair.
Southold Historical Museum is proud to offer the Lighthouse Lectures Series free of charge. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chair. Donations are gladly accepted. For those without a parking permit, there is a fee to park in the Southold Park District lot.
