Change.org Petition Calls for Full-Day Kindergarten in Northport

Parents are calling on the Northport-East Northport School District as well as government officials to implement full-day kindergarten for the community.

The district currently provides half-day kindergarten, which is offered in the morning or afternoon. Now, a new petition on change.org is gaining momentum to switch to a full-day program.

According to the petition, full-day Kindergarten would offer the following benefits.

Development of our children’s education and social well being from the earliest possible educational opportunity.

Maintain Northport’s educational standing on Long Island and in NYS.

Encourage families to purchase homes and live in Northport.

Parents hope to have 1,200 signatures to present to the Board of Education when it meets next on Monday, Jan. 26.
