Crime Report: DWIs, Marijuana

Recent arrests and complaints as reported in the Northport Police district.

Here are some of the recent arrests made in Northport. None of the defendants has been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges listed below.

Arrests

David Hancock of East Northport was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operator after he was observed operating a vehcicle heading west on Fort Salonga Road and failing to maintain his lane by driving in the right hand shoulder on Jan. 14.

Scott Swezey of East Northport was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Norwood Road on Jan 15.

An East Northport man and a Fort Salonga man were issued field appearance tickets for unlawful possession of marijuana in lieu of arrest.

Complaints

A man stated on Jan. 13 that he had received a phone call from an individual, claiming he worked for the Internal Revenue Service. The individual stated the complainant owed money and needed to contact the agency to resolve the issue. When the complainant contacted the IRS directly, he was informed that the IRS does not telephone people and that there is a group of people attempting to scam individual. The complainant was advised to block the phone number of the incoming call. Report taken for informational purposes and advised to contact Second Precinct, as that is where where incident occurred.

Police responded to Laurel Avenue on Jan. 15 for a report of possible people knocking over garbage cans. Police canvassed the area and located individuals who agreed to pick up the garbage. Subjects were warned and admonished for littering.
